Punalu’u Beach Park / Black Sand Beach:
The most famous black beach at the Big Island / Hawaii is located at the Punalu’u Beach Park. Restrooms and showers are provided at this picturesque beach. No parking fee and no entrance fee is charged at the Punalu’u Beach Park (as at: September 2011).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Green Sand Beach (Mahana Bay):
The Green Sand Beach (Pu’u Mahana Beach) at the island Hawaii (Big Island) is located at the Mahana Bay, which is situated east of the Ka Lae South Point (southernmost point of the USA and of Hawaii). A hiking trail leads to the beach (water and sunprotection are important for this hike). The hike from the parking lot to the Green Sand Beach and back is about 5 miles / 8 kilometers long. A steep trail leads at the Mahana Bay to the Green Sand Beach. The beach is narrow during high tide.
